DonateScott Hughes for State Senate District 2

We’ve scoured the state looking for the best race to trade-in a liberal incumbent for a strong conservative, and we think we’ve found it in Senate District 2, which is composed of Blount and Sevier Counties and the cities of Maryville, Sevierville and Gatlinburg.  This race is urgent because it is a tough primary with voting starting in less than two months.  It is likely the only primary in which we’ll endorse because we want to concentrate the money and efforts of our pro-liberty donors like you to make sure we win.

Scott Hughes

Scott Hughes is a conservative Republican who has become a favorite of Tea Parties across the state in his effort to unseat special-interest incumbent Doug Overbey, an attorney who frequently finds himself on the wrong side of limited-government, conservative legislation.

Scott is a full-fledged conservative who has vowed to protect life and Tennessee’s sovereignty under the Constitution.  He has a strong team of grassroots leaders and campaign veterans with backing from many in the local Republican Party like former State Senator Raymond Finney, Tennessee’s NRC Committeewoman Peggy Lambert and his treasurer State Representative Bo Henry.  Because there is no Democrat opponent in the general election, this primary battle is for all the marbles.

Scott is a family man who has been a pro-life leader for more than a decade.  He and his wife of 14 years, Raychel, have adopted four children, Tyler, Ansley, Blake and Gavin.  Scott is best known for his eight years running Hope Resource Center, the largest crisis pregnancy center in East Tennessee, before taking his current job as CFO of the Fuse Church in Knoxville.

State Senate District 12Scott’s opponent has earned the ire of conservatives across the state.  Recently Overbey managed to kill the “Constitutional Sheriff” bill supported by most Tea Parties, sided with the unions in favor of collective bargaining, voted against school vouchers, and voted against term limits.  Overbey’s greatest accomplishment is his ability to obtain special interest money with 83 special interest PAC donations in the last half of 2011 alone, and dozens more donations from businesses and their owners seeking his favor. Despite this, Overbey is still one of the most vulnerable Republicans in the state due to his liberal record, and Scott and his team have been very successful in raising funds to counter Overbey’s special interest bank account.

We need to put an end to Overbey’s obstruction of conservative legislation and put a great conservative like Scott Hughes in his place.  Scott needs your help!  Donate today.

Other Races of Interest

With the districts redrawn, the candidate filing deadline passed, and the 1st quarter financial reports in, we are now meeting with potential candidates to determine their commitment to the Constitution and State Sovereignty and to assess the incumbents they are challenging.

Below are some of the top races we are considering:

Dr. Mark Green (R) vs. incumbent Tim Barnes (D) for State Senate District 22 (Clarksville)
Dr. Green has impressed us with his commitment to state sovereignty and the Constitution, his proposals for fiscal responsibility, his successful career in the military and small business, and his ability to raise funds.  We think Dr. Green would be a leader for liberty and conservatism in the state legislature and he has the charisma, knowledge and motivation to put up a strong challenge against the liberal incumbent in Clarksville.

Robert Duvall (R) vs. incumbent Sherry Jones (D) for State Representative District 59 (Nashville)
Mr. Duvall is a popular Metro Nashville City Councilman who has stood up against Mayor Karl Dean and the majority-liberal council on many occasions, and is currently leading the charge against Mayor Dean’s proposed property tax increase.  Duvall is known for his conservatism, patriotism and carrying a Constitution with him.  In the redrawn district, which is now more favorable to Republicans and which contains most of Duvall’s Council district, Duvall has a strong chance against perennial lib Sherry Jones and finally breaking the Democrat stranglehold in Nashville.

Congratulations to the new representatives elected in 2010 with your support!

2010 WINNER Scott DesJarlais vs. Lincoln Davis (U.S. Rep TN-4)
What we said then: Dr. Scott DesJarlais is challenging one of the last of the so-called Blue Dog Democrats, and as a family practice doctor and conservative he knows the right prescription for out-of-control government is a good dose of the Constitution.  Dr. D is pro-life, pro-gun, pro-marriage and proud of it!  As a family physician he knows which medical programs work and don’t work and will do all he can to end the healthcare takeover that is breaking our nation.  Dr. D’s opponent is incumbent Democrat Lincoln Davis, who voted for the $820 Billion Stimulus Bill, Cash for Clunkers and Slaughter Rule.  Scott DesJarlais is a true conservative who will adhere to our constitution, reduce the size of government, end corporate bailouts and stop runaway spending.

Tennessee’s 4th Congressional District is a massive, winding rural district that begins south of Nashville, extends to Alabama, then shoots northeastward all the way up to Kentucky.  This race is the key to changing the federal representation of Tennessee from a liberal 5-4 Democrat-Republican split to 6-3 Conservative Republican majority or better!

2010 WINNER Mike Sparks vs. Kent Coleman (State Rep. Dist. 49)
Mike SparksWhat we said then: Mike Sparks is an economic and social conservative, has owned two small businesses, and has received the endorsements of the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB) and Tennessee Right to Life.  He’s receiving support from numerous liberty groups around the Murfreesboro area in what is sure to be a tight race against his liberal incumbent opponent.  Mike has the business principles needed to make a living and the values that make a life!  His opponent, Kent Coleman, votes with former Speaker Jimmy Naifeh 99.7% of the time.  Coleman has supported tax-payer funded healthcare for illegal aliens, opposed legislation requiring proof of US citizenship to vote, and even opposed the adoption of the Choose Life license plate, which has become one of the top 10 specialty plates in TN, generating income for children’s services.

District 49 covers parts of Murfreesboro, Smyrna, and LaVergne in Rutherford County.  Although traditionally a Democrat-leaning district, Mr. Coleman is wearing out his welcome with voters who are tired of his Obama-style big-government, anti-family legislation.  With Republicans highly motivated to go to the polls this year this is our best opportunity in years to flip this seat to a principled conservative.
